”As We May Think” – The great leap forward, from chaos to innovation

As we are looking at today`s business world and the only constant variable … chaos… let`s recall how CHAOS is the greatest fuel for PROGRESS.

I would like to take a moment and remember perhaps the greatest leap forward, bringing some degree of order to a chaotic world of information – back in 1945, when a scientist discussed the basics of what we know today as Google.

As he summarizes the scientific progress of the day, Vannevar Bush calls for greater accessibility of human knowledge and the creation of a large library, pushing top scientists to create a virtually limitless, fast, reliable, extensible associative memory storage and retrieval system.

“Consider a future device … in which an individual stores all his books, records, and communications, and which is mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility. It is an enlarged intimate supplement to his memory.”
VANNEVAR BUSH, THE ATLANTIC, JULY 1945
